Jim Steranko’s Outland is a high water mark in illustrated storytelling. After spending almost a decade away from comics following his celebrated Marvel tenure in the 60s, Steranko returned with this sci-fi extravaganza, a stunning collection of colossal double page spreads, impeccable draftsmanship, and stunning color. 

 

Originally commissioned as gifts to the new team at Heavy Metal Magazine in celebration of their relaunch in 2025, the ninth Optics Press volume presents Steranko’s masterpiece as it’s never been seen before, in a format befitting one of the coolest pieces of 20th century art.
